Except Yog in Ashram

Description

Except Yog in Ashram

What happens when you leave the noise of everyday life expecting to find peace—only to discover that you have carried the noise inside yourself?

In Except Yog in Ashram, Vasuki takes readers inside a twenty-four-day journey through a modern yoga and meditation ashram, where people arrive searching for different things: peace, healing, discipline, companionship, escape, meaning and sometimes simply a break from ordinary life.

The narrator enters the ashram exhausted by the demands of professional life and hoping that yoga, meditation, silence and disciplined living will provide the answers he has been unable to find outside. But the ashram soon reveals itself to be more than a place of spiritual practice.

Seventy seekers bring their own histories, expectations, insecurities, desires and wounds with them.

Friendships develop. Strangers become companions. Attraction appears. Trust is tested. Misunderstandings grow. Jealousy emerges. Conflicts arise. Behind the routines of yoga, meditation, philosophy and simple living, ordinary human nature continues to reveal itself.

The experience gradually changes the narrator’s understanding of peace.

The book explores a central question:

Can changing your surroundings really change you?

Through yoga, meditation, friendship, conflict, observation and reflection, the narrator begins to understand that peace may not be something waiting in a particular place. The deeper journey is learning to recognize the thoughts, desires, judgments and reactions that stand between ourselves and that peace.

The ashram does not provide simple answers. Instead, it changes the questions.

A reflective story about yoga, spirituality, friendship, human psychology, desire, relationships, self-discovery and personal transformation, Except Yog in Ashram invites readers to look beyond appearances and examine what people carry beneath them.
